Based on real species

Recognizable,
not simply decorative.

The same hand-drawn look across the whole collection — verified against the real species, animal by animal.

Beautiful enough to invite a closer look. Accurate enough to support real learning.

Our animals are illustrated with the real species in mind. We look closely at body proportions, characteristic markings, feet, horns, ears, tails and the features that distinguish one species from another.

The illustrations remain warm and approachable, but they are not turned into generic cartoon animals.

Questions

Often
asked.

  • Both flamingo parents produce a nutrient-rich secretion called crop milk, which they feed directly to their chicks in the early weeks before the young birds develop the curved beak needed for filter-feeding. This crop milk is produced by both males and females, which is unusual among birds.

  • After the first couple of weeks, flamingo chicks leave the nest and join large groups called crèches made up of hundreds of other chicks, watched over by a small number of adult minders. Moving in these crèches offers safety in numbers while most of the flock's adults are away feeding.

  • Young flamingos can walk and swim within days of hatching but continue relying on parental feeding for around two months until their beaks and filtering ability fully develop. Independence increases gradually as the chick's flight feathers grow in and it learns to feed alongside the flock.
